Body Surfing is an important skill to learn for all surfers and surf sports athletes.
For those who do not know about or understand the term Body Surfing, this is where people catch waves with no equipment, no board, no paddle, nothing but their body and the wave. It is optional to wear fins (flippers) or have a hand plane or hand surfer but for most of us, these are not used and are definitely not required to get into body surfing.
Any body who can swim and has confidence in the ocean and surf can body surf as there is no equipment required. Firstly, body surfing is great fun! Catching and riding a wave purely with your body and skill is very enjoyable. It is also an excellent skill so a surfer can learn and understand about waves, the power of waves and this can be a great help when surfing or any other surf sport.
For safety, it is also important. If our in the waves and you lose your board or other craft, it allows someone to get back to the beach must faster and easier. It is a thrilling way of riding the waves, challenging of course but great fun. The bigger it gets, also the more skills and confidence you must have and the better swimmer you need to be and also the braver you also need to be.
Everyone can begin body surfing. Even those who are not strong swimmers can still learn and practice their body surfing in waist deep water, where they can catch the wave and try to stay with that wave all the way to the shore and sand! We include body surfing into our surfing programs, our surf skills programs, lifeguard training and waterman training programs.
Body surfing is also a component of our Surfing Certification Programs as well.
We also provide other basic information in all of our lessons including basic information about the ocean and the surf, safety tips and other information important for the beginner to know as they learn to surf.
Safety is ALWAYS our priority and number one concern in all the lessons and sessions, no matter the discipline or level or participant. Our instructors use their skills, knowledge and experience to decide on where the best place to complete the session is, where the waves are best and importantly where the safest conditions are.
Indica Surf School prides itself on providing sessions to all levels and abilities in a range of sports and disciplines where our participants have the greatest time and feel safety at all times.
In these sessions you will learn to body surf and improve your body surfing skills. Starting out in shallow water, you will progress through to deeper water as you get better. We will be covering types of waves, how to catch waves, body position while catching and then riding the wave, maximising the distance ridden and then begin to move to bigger waves, unbroken waves and start to turn and traverse across the waves
As a body surfer, you will also start to learn and understand the feeling of waves and the power of waves. This is a great help and assistance to a surfer what ever type of craft they are riding.
